As the previous reviewer (Davis) stated, this item IS pretty expensive, but still recommended.
I don't really have a problem with the charge time, I think that's just part of their technology (the LEGO solution is exactly the same).
What I WOULD complain about as a negative here is that the supplied adapter doesn't have an end to provide direct power to the Robo Interface. You are required to buy that separately, and that just doesn't make sense. For this price, you should be provided an adapter that will fit the jack on the Interface AND a jack on the included charger.
All that said, you'll NEED this item to make mobile robots, if you want to stick with fischertechnik. It's official, it works as expected, and does a good job of it. I haven't had mine long enough to test their claims about "smart" charging capabilities, but I have no doubt in fischertechnik's ability to deliver. They haven't let me down yet. You could go with another rechargeable solution (one of the beauties of fishertechnik: they _are_ somewhat open-ended), but this battery pack is set-up from the start to build into your model and attach to your wires in existing fischertechnik sets.
By the way, the "charger" end also has connectors so it could be built into a fischertechnik model. Theoretically, you could build a charging station that a mobile robot could return to for a charge, unaided. Getting that to line up every time would be a challenge, but if you're a true fan, that should provide something exciting to strive for.
